October 2009

During the Nanotech Europe 2009 conference event (Fall 2009), Technische Universität Berlin, Germany, a TITNT meeting was held on October 1st. This meeting was hosted by Dr. Meyer Plath from the BAM Federal Institute for Materials Research, Berlin. Mrs. Sentein, (Saclay, France), Dr. Emond, Dr. Maghni and Dr. Halle, (Montreal, Canada) were attended this meeting. In addition, Dr. Tokarski, Dr. Rolando (Lille, France) and Dr. Hirano (Tsukuba, Japan) have also attended this meeting via a Web conferencing.

March 2009

On March 2009, Dr. Emond participated to the 48th annual meeting of Society of Toxicology (SOT), in Baltimore USA. During that meeting Dr. Emond had the opportunity to discuss with the members of Nanotoxicology Specialty Section. This is one the major international toxicology events in the US. Therefore, it was a good opportunity to advertise the TITNT‘s activities in this country. He met also some of leaders in nanotoxicology field in the US. This meeting was supported by a grant from the MDEIE (see news about grants awarded in 2008 to Canadians’ TITNT members).

Dr. Emond and Dr Maghni, Montreal, Canada met in Japon, during the NanoTech 2009 event, their colleagues' Dr. Hirano, from the National Institute for Environmental Studies, Tsukuba, Japon, Dr. Schuster from the CEA, Saclay, France, Dr. Myer-Plath from the BAM Institute in Berlin Germany and Dr. Caroline Tokarski from the University of Lille 1, France. The first TITNT meeting held at the National Institute for Environmental Studies, Tsukuba aimed for members to present their own platform and to start discussions on TINTN’s research priorities and program. January 2009

Dr. Emond, Montreal, Canada met his colleagues' Dr Schuster from the CEA, Saclay, France, Dr. Myer-Plath from the BAM Institute in Berlin Germany and Dr. Rolando from the University of Lille 1, France. The objective of these meetings was to visit their laboratories and Institute’s infrastructure and to organize the first international TITNT workshop in Tsukuba, Tokyo in February 2009. These meetings were supported by a grant from the MDEIE (see news about grants awarded in 2008 to Canadians’ TITNT members).

Award, December 2008

On December 2008, the three Canadian members of TITNT have been awarded by a grant from the Canadian Institutes of Heath Research (CIHR) to support the development of TITNT by the organization of meetings with international TITNT members for consolidating TITNT infrastructure and starting a common project.

Interview, August 2008

In August 2008, Plan, the magazine of the engineers of the Province of Quebec, has interviewed Dr. Karim Maghni about nanoparticles and asthma. In the October issue of Plan, Dr Maghni noticed, “Although some nanoparticles increase allergenic sensitization and allergic airway responses other nanoparticles may have therapeutic applications as for the treatment of asthma.” Dr Maghni also mentioned in the article, the Quebecer Community in Nanotoxicology, the Research Network in Health and Security in the Workplace of Quebec, and TITNT and its financial support by the MDEIE.

Awards, October 2008

On October 2008, the three Canadian members of TITNT have been awarded by a grant from the Réseau de recherche en santé et sécurité du travail du Québec (RRSSTQ) for a pilot project entitled « Démonstration de la nécessité d’établir des normes de sécurité pour l’exposition aux nanoparticules prenant en compte la condition respiratoire du travailleur »
